Drone Battery Maintenance

Six core maintenance principles for drone lithium batteries
1. Strictly prevent over-discharge and over-charge, and protect voltage safety

Over-discharge protection: When the voltage of a single battery drops below 3.7V, the battery enters a steep drop range, and continuous discharge will cause irreversible damage. When operating, you need to:

Set a 3.8V/battery low-voltage alarm to force return

A single flight consumes ≤80% of the power (retain ≥20%)

Equipped with a spare battery to avoid cycle overdraft

Consequence warning: Frequent over-discharge shortens the life by more than 50%

2. Intelligent charging management to block overcharge risks

Poor quality chargers or aging components may cause voltage out of control, so you must:

Use an intelligent charger with automatic power-off function

Personnel supervision during the entire charging process

Charging current is strictly ≤ the calibrated C number (such as 1C=4A for a 4000mAh battery)

Check the charger output voltage error every quarter (need to be <±0.05V)

3. Scientific storage strategy to delay battery aging

Full-charge storage: no more than 3 days, discharge to 3.8V/cell after expiration

Long-term idle: after more than 3 months, adjust to 3.8V/cell for storage after a complete charge and discharge cycle

Storage environment: placed in a cool and dry place at 10~25℃, humidity <60% and no corrosive gas

Fatal error: full-charge storage for more than 7 days may cause the battery to swell and become scrapped

4. Triple physical protection

Shell protection: avoid falling/squeezing to cause rupture (damage may cause explosion)

Anti-short circuit measures:

Use insulating clamps to isolate positive and negative poles during welding

Use hard explosion-proof boxes for transportation to resist shock

Insulate the interface with silicone insulation sheath

Regular inspection: Check the shell for deformation/corrosion/leakage every month

5. Precise temperature control

Charging and discharging restricted area: Operation is prohibited in an environment of <0℃ or >40℃. The temperature must be restored to 15~25℃ before charging

Low temperature flight specifications (applicable to an environment of <-5℃):

Pre-flight insulation treatment (preheating to ≥10℃)

Flight time is reduced to 50% of normal temperature

Low voltage alarm value is increased by 0.1~0.2V/section (such as 3.7V to 3.8V)

Storage temperature: Long-term storage must be kept constant in a sealed environment of 10~25℃

6. Systematic regular maintenance

Inspection frequency: every 10 cycles or once a month

Required inspection items:

Appearance: bulge/crack/electrolyte leakage

Electrode: metal oxidation/false connection of plug

Wire: insulation damage ≥2mm² needs to be replaced

Abnormal handling: immediately stop using and conduct professional inspection if any problem is found

Life formula: standard operation can reach 300 cycles (capacity retention rate>80%), over discharge/full charge storage will be sharply reduced to <100 times

Extreme cold response: -10℃ environmental discharge capacity is only 40% of normal temperature, and the flight time must be reduced by 1:2.5 (such as 20 minutes at normal temperature → 8 minutes in cold area)

Scrap standard: battery expansion>2mm or single cell voltage difference>0.2V requires mandatory retirement
